"Jazz
is an idiom of music that is characterised by the extensive use
of improvisation and syncopated rhythms. The history of its
continuing evolution is rich and colorful, and reflects the experience
of every person who has ever raised a voice, instrument, or pen in
support of its existence.
For
the performer it represents the
infinite challenge of stretching the boundaries of his or her
musicality, by spontaneously creating an expression that is unique and
deeply personal. For the listener every performance is a shared
adventure, where no one is ever sure of what may be around the next
musical corner.
For me personally, jazz offers a lifetime of challenge
and opportunities for personal and musical growth, that cannot be
found in any other music"..... Andre Woodvine
